Criminal

A non-bailable offence is a serious offence for which bail is not a right and is granted only at the court's discretion.

What does Non-bailable offence mean in plain words?

For serious offences, bail is not a right. The court cannot release you if there appear reasonable grounds to believe you are guilty of an offence punishable with death, life imprisonment or ten years. Even then, the court may allow bail to a woman, a person under sixteen, or a sick or infirm person, and bail must be granted where the case needs further inquiry.

When will I hear Non-bailable offence?

The lawyer argued that the case of the accused needed further inquiry and so bail should be granted despite the non-bailable offence.

Which law covers Non-bailable offence?
