A tax show-cause notice is a notice from the tax authority asking a taxpayer to explain why a tax assessment or penalty should not be made against him.
What does Tax show-cause notice mean in plain words?
An assessment cannot be amended under section 122 unless you have been given an opportunity of being heard, so a reply with documents matters. The order must be made within one year of the notice unless the Commissioner extends it for recorded reasons. You can appeal an amended assessment order to the Commissioner (Appeals).
