Mutation (intiqal)

Property and rent

Mutation (intiqal) is, in Punjab, the entry in the register of mutations, and then in the periodical record, made when a person acquires or transfers a right in land as a land-owner.

What does Mutation (intiqal) mean in plain words?

In Punjab, a person who acquires a right as land-owner by inheritance (and the other modes listed in section 42(1)) must report it to the Patwari forthwith. The Patwari enters it in the register of mutations, and a Revenue Officer inquires and makes an order, after which the periodical record is changed. Where land is transferred by sale, mortgage or gift, the person transferring reports it to the Registering Authority, which causes the mutation entry through the Arazi Record Centre. Other provinces have their own land revenue laws and may differ.

When will I hear Mutation (intiqal)?

The heirs reported the inheritance to the Patwari so the land would be entered in their names.

Which law covers Mutation (intiqal)?

Section 42, Punjab Land Revenue Act 1967
